Persecution comes to Christians. The Bible shows that it may come from enemies, loved ones, or even among fellow Christians (Matt. 5:44; 10:36; Phil. 1:17). Persecution does not automatically mean that you are disapproved by the Lord. On the contrary, it might even indicate that you are approved by the Lord. The Lord Jesus said in Matthew 5:10-12, "Blessed are those who are persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of the heavens. Blessed are you when they reproach and persecute you, and while speaking lies, say every evil thing against you because of Me. Rejoice and exult, for your reward is great in the heavens; for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you." Therefore we need to realize that once you start to love the Lord and are absolute for His heart’s desire, you should not be surprised that persecution comes to you. A disciple is not above the teacher, nor a slave above his master (Matt. 10:24). The Lord Jesus Himself suffered a lot of persecution and was even crucified on the cross. We are not greater than the Lord. Since the Lord passed through sufferings in the hands of men, we will likewise encounter persecution from people.
