The Lord’s Commission – The Gospel
By CampusLifePH.org on 1 March 2012 Share:

Matt. 28:19
Go therefore and disciple all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Mark 16:15
And He said to them, Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to all the creation.

Luke 24:47-48
And that repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem. You are witnesses of these things.

Acts 26:18
To open their eyes, to turn them from darkness to light and from the authority of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who have been sanctified by faith in Me.

1 Cor. 9:16
For if I preach the gospel, I have no boast, for necessity is laid upon me; for woe to me if I do not preach the gospel.

THE COMMISSION OF THE GOSPEL

Preaching the gospel is the greatest commission in the Bible, and it is the Lord’s greatest charge to us. This charge is found in three portions of the New Testament: the last chapter of Matthew, the last chapter of Mark, and the last chapter of Luke. According to these three portions, after the Lord Jesus resurrected, He left us with a commission. This commission was His final charge. Matthew 28:19 says, “Go therefore and disciple all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.” Mark 16:15 says, “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to all the creation.” We need to proclaim the gospel not only to all the nations but also to all the creation. Luke 24:47 says, “That repentance for forgiveness of sins would be proclaimed in His name to all the nations, beginning from Jerusalem.” These three verses show that preaching the gospel is the Lord’s commission to us.1

In each of the four gospels and Acts, the Lord commissioned His disciples to carry out the gospel. In Matthew, Mark, and Luke this commission is at the end, but in John it is in the middle. In chapter fifteen of John, the Lord charged the disciples to go forth and bear fruit (v. 16). Then at the beginning of Acts, the Lord trained the disciples, before His ascension, to preach the gospel of the kingdom of God (1:2-9).2

After a person is saved, he does not need to be encouraged to preach the gospel, because there is a spontaneous desire within him to preach the gospel to others. When he preaches the gospel, he is full of joy. Preaching the gospel revives us. We are burning within when we preach the gospel to people…. The Lord lives in us because He wants us to preach the gospel to others. Every believer has a desire to lead others to salvation and has the spirit of the gospel within him. Preaching the gospel is the Lord’s commission to us.3 This is the “great commission.”4 We should learn to receive a burden from the Lord; that is, to receive His commission.5

PREACHING THE GOSPEL BEING
OUR RESPONSIBILITY

We not only need to receive a commission from the Lord, but we also need to take care of the inner feeling of responsibility. Preaching the gospel is our responsibility.6  The young people need God. If they never receive the Lord’s gospel or hear the Lord’s truth, the center of their human existence will not be strong. It is our responsibility that they hear the truth. We must pick up this responsibility and go to every junior high school, high school, technical college, university, and graduate school to ensure that the young people have the opportunity to know the Lord’s truth and receive His gospel while they are receiving their education. We must consecrate the entire church to the Lord for the campus work.7 We need to actively engage ourselves in the visitation work in the communities and on the campuses.8

In the New Testament, the preaching of the gospel is given a high place. The first thing a local church should do, the first responsibility it should bear, is to disciple the nations, to preach the gospel, to gain sinners.9 Every believer should regard gospel preaching as a responsibility of his daily life.10 We must arise to do the work of reaping by actively preaching the gospel.11 The first commission we bear before God is to preach the gospel. If we do not preach the gospel, we are not fulfilling our obligation. Paul said that he was a debtor (Rom. 1:14). As long as our obligation is not fulfilled, we are debtors.12

If we all have such a heart, the Lord's move will be blessed, our number will increase, and the spread will accelerate!13 If you have the heart to begin to practice the priesthood of the gospel, you must study, budget your time, and go to contact people.14 In whatever a person does, the most important thing is to have a heart. Without a heart, a person will not want to do anything, and even if he does something, he will not be enthusiastic in doing it…. When we see the importance and value of a certain matter, we will spontaneously have a heart for it.15
